A complete, hands-on learning experience designed for second-grade students at home. Each box includes a printed set of learning units along with the hands-on materials and supplies needed to complete the activities inside the books.

Explore Science by Doing It
 
In Grade 2, students investigate plants, materials, forces, Earth’s landscapes, and the natural world through creative experiments and hands-on challenges. They will:
🧩 Create designs with Tangram tiles and explore how shapes can be combined and rearranged to solve problems.
🔌 Take apart an electronic device to discover the different parts inside and investigate how everyday technology is constructed.
🌱 Design an experiment with sprouted seeds to discover what plants need to grow.
🛝 Test the slipperiness of different materials by sliding them down a ramp and measuring the angle at which they begin to slip.
🌼 Create a wildflower seed greeting card and send it to a friend or loved one to plant and grow.
🐾 Mimic how burrs travel on animals by creating paper burrs and testing how they can attach and move.
💨 Explore how seeds travel in the wind by designing folded-paper creations and testing how the wind moves them.
🥥 Observe cool and warm coconut oil and investigate how temperature can change the properties of a material.
🧊🌸 Create a frozen flower garden by freezing flowers in ice, then using a pipette to melt the ice and observe the changes in the water and flowers.
🐦 Build a bird feeder from recycled materials collected at home and create a way to help provide food for local birds.
💨 Investigate how wind moves sediment by blowing particles of different sizes and observing which ones can be moved.
🏖️ Sort beachcombing materials into groups and describe each material based on its observable properties.
🌎 Explore Earth using Google Earth as they identify hills, mountains, volcanoes, peninsulas, plains, plateaus, islands, atolls, lakes, oceans, bays, rivers, deltas, and glaciers.
🗺️ Build a model landscape using modeling clay or salt dough to create different landforms and bodies of water.
 
These aren’t just activities to watch or read about. Students design, build, observe, measure, sort, test, investigate, and make discoveries for themselves. Each unit turns science concepts into something students can experience with their own hands—making learning memorable, meaningful, and fun.
